This is a view of the intersection of PV Drive north and Rolling Hills Road in the mid 30's The main gate ton the new community of Rolling Hills is located there

The old Phillips ranch is seen in the lower left corner. It is now the site of the Empty Saddle Riding Club, which holds many competitions during the year, including the prestigious Portuguese Bend National Horse Show.

Harry Phillips and his wife at their ranch. By 1900 they were successfully raising over 2000 head of cattle, as well as several crops including large quantities of barley. In addition to running the ranch, Harry was responsible for planting most of the trees that are in the tree section of Palos Verdes Estates, along PV Drive North.  
   A major sales campaign was mounted for selling home lots in the new city of Palos Verdes Estates in the late 20"s
 Here is one of the real estate sales offices. By the fall of 1924 over 600 lots had been sold and 20 homes were being built.  
   These salesmen are celebrating the raising of 15 million dollars worth of investment in the Palos Verdes Project.
 The La Venta Inn ( which means "the sale") was built in 1923 as a place for the salesmen to take the prospects to try and close the sale. There were many special entertainments held here in an effort to sell lots.  
   View of the Gardiner Building. It was the earliest building in the Malaga Cove plaza, dedicated in 1925. Over 100,000 trees were planted that year in Palos Verdes Estates.
 One of the large coast defense guns located on Palos Verdes as part of Fort Mac Arthur. They were built during World War I, and over 400 rounds were fired in practice before they were scrapped after World War II.
